Solo builders are underpricing what AI can already do, and it is costing them ambition, not output. Most people still ask AI for a function when they could hand it a subsystem. The gap is not skill. It is a stale mental model of what one person can ship in a weekend versus what used to require a team.

The recalibration test is simple: take your backlog and downgrade every timeline. The someday project becomes a this-quarter project. The two-week sprint becomes a weekend. People who update this assumption ship at a completely different scale than people still budgeting time based on last year's tools.
As coding gets cheap, the scarce resource shifts to knowing what is worth building. Someone with fifteen years inside an industry can see which friction points are load-bearing and which features only look important from the outside. That pattern recognition cannot be scraped from documentation or synthesized from interviews; it has to be built alongside a real domain expert, in real decisions, in real time.
Venturing into unfamiliar territory does not get solved by research. Reading and interviewing produce something that sounds plausible to outsiders and wrong to insiders. The fix is a genuine co-builder with domain depth, present in the actual work, not an advisor whose name sits on a slide.
The instinct to start building the moment you see a problem is now expensive rather than efficient. A useful discipline: write one sentence defending why a project should exist before opening an editor, and keep a kill list of ideas you deliberately passed on with the reason attached. Both train the muscle of treating your own time, not your typing speed, as the limiting factor.
Bottom Line: Execution got cheap enough that judgment became the whole game.
